About The Position

We have a new opening for a Registered Nurse - Family Health at Nellis AFB in North Las Vegas, NV. This role requires knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience in assessing adult and geriatric patients. The nurse will utilize the nursing process as a basis for professional practice and possess knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, diagnostic studies, and treatments. Knowledge of preventive health schedules, disease management, population health principles, and education methods is also essential. Experience within the military health care system, including TRICARE, or knowledge of fee-for-services, preferred provider networks, and managed care/HMO organizations is highly desirable. The position also requires knowledge of various pharmacological agents, their effects, side effects, and complications, as well as administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient conditions, teaching, and follow-up care.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • A minimum of 2-years of post-grad outpatient experience as a registered nurse.
  • Current, full, active and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse from any state.
  • Current AHA OR ARC BLS and ACLS Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
  • Must submit to a background check and pre-employment drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Strongly preferred working knowledge of the military health care system including TRICARE health benefits.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of fee-for-services, preferred provider network and managed care/HMO organizations is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical decisions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care through a continuum and facilitate optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Provide care within ethical and legal boundaries.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team, teaching/education, and benefiting the patient/family and organization.
  • Perform physical exams and health assessments, including telephonic assessment/evaluation.
  • Provide health promotions and counseling.
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergencies.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people.
  • Prescribe and communicate treatment plans in accordance with established clinic protocols.
  • Conduct telephone and in-person assessment/evaluation, determining optimal time and location for patient management and follow-up care.
  • Collect and assess significant patient history information and perform necessary patient teaching.
  • Perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity, including telephone contacts.
  • Arrange for procedures and perform telephone follow-up.
  • Administer medications, perform wound care, and other personalized patient care.
  • Direct and supervise care provided by other healthcare personnel.
  • Make patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
  • Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care.
  • Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient care.
  • Perform nursing services identified in the scope of practice.
  • Orient/train new staff as required by the government.
  • Participate in the peer review process.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic-specific equipment.
  • Ensure medication/supplies are available and managed appropriately.
  • Perform/assist with procedures such as bladder catheterizations, pulse oximetry, oxygen administration, nebulizer treatments, EKGs, phlebotomy, and other clinic-specific procedures.
  • Provide clinical oversight of all paraprofessionals involved in the provision of therapeutic treatments.
  • Ensure proper documentation and coding of procedures.
  • Complete orientation and competency verification programs.
  • Serve and participate in committees, functions, and other meetings.
  • Provide relevant and timely information to committees and assist with decision-making and process improvement.
  • Participate in customer service initiatives, quality projects, and medical readiness activities.
  • Participate in peer review processes as directed.
