About The Position

The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) is a Joint Commission-designated medical facility located in Decatur, Georgia, offering patient-centered healthcare. It is a level 1A tertiary care facility with comprehensive medical, surgical, and geriatric specialty services, along with state-of-the-art diagnostic testing. The Medical Center serves over 130,000 Veterans across 50 counties in northeast Georgia and functions as a teaching hospital in collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine.

Requirements

  • Shall have completed an accredited course in Intensive Care/Cath Lab Nursing as well as certification in Moderate Sedation or equivalent.
  • In lieu of ICU certification, nurses shall possess at least 5 years clinical experience in an Intensive Care Unit or other critical care environments and must have worked within the last six months in one of the above settings.
  • A current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
  • A minimum of three years' direct patient care experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Nurses with Acute/Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) certifications through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN) CCRN certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Insertion of peripheral lines.
  • Collection of blood samples by venipuncture, central lines and swan Ganz catheters.
  • Drawing of arterial blood from existing lined.
  • Hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Under the physician's direction, the nurses in ICU may remove peripheral intravenous lines, central venous catheters and percutaneous arterial lines.
  • In the event that the patient experiences chest pain or signs and symptoms of cardiac abnormalities, the nurse will perform a 12 lead EKG immediately.
  • In the even that the patient develops asystole, ACLS protocol will be followed.
  • In the event that a patient requires placement of an external pacemaker, the nurse will attach the patient to a pacing wire and pacing generator.
  • Setup and monitoring for intra-aortic balloon pump.
  • Setup and monitoring for Impella (Heart Pump) devise for high-risk Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) procedures.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with patients who require Rotoblator, and Cardiovascular Systems rotational atherectomy systems.
  • Maintains responsibility for providing coverage to the dialysis center.
  • May be required to work with COVID 19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation for COVID 19.
