About The Position

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Full Time, Night shift position on the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) in Suffolk, VA. The BHU is a 20-bed unit specializing in dual diagnosis behavioral health patients, including those with Bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, major depression, and substance abuse. It is a low to moderate acuity locked unit that consistently achieves high customer service and employee engagement scores within Sentara's behavioral health services. Nurses collaborate with a full interdisciplinary team, including mental health techs, LPNs, Behavioral Health Therapists, Recreational Therapists, Nurse Practitioners, and Psychiatrists, utilizing a team nursing structure. The unit provides group therapy sessions. The Registered Nurse is responsible for competent nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. Professional performance standards encompass ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN must possess clinical knowledge and skills specific to the clinical area.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • None required (for experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.
  • Behavioral Health experience is highly (preferred)
  • 1 year of acute care (preferred)
  • Previous healthcare experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
  • Engage in patient care within a team nursing structure.
  • Provide group therapy sessions on the unit.
