About The Position

The Eastern Colorado Veterans Healthcare System (ECHCS) provides comprehensive healthcare services to veterans across a wide region, including Aurora, Denver, Lakewood, Golden, La Junta, Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, Pueblo, Salida, Lamar, and Burlington. Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a registered nurse.
  • An ASN degree from an Accredited Nursing School Program.
  • Must have an active, unrestricted, and free of disciplinary action license as a nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
  • Must have a current certification in Basic Life Support.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science (BSN) degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient education.
  • Carry out physician orders; administer medications, oxygen, and a variety of treatments.
  • Manage therapeutic devices such as respiratory and electrocardiograph machines and other medical equipment and supplies.
  • Measure and assess vital signs, height, weight, and neurological status, visual acuity, and hearing.
  • Screen patients for alcohol dependence, depression, etc.
  • Collaborate and coordinate patient care with other healthcare providers.
  • Assign and direct the patient care provided by ancillary nursing staff.
  • Performs quality control for capillary blood glucose monitoring checks, fridge temperature checks, etc.
  • Collect or assist in the collection of lab specimens where applicable.
  • Recognize life-threatening emergencies and initiate and maintain resuscitation measures and other emergency procedures as appropriate to the situation.
  • Recognize adverse reactions to medications, treatments, and procedures and initiate interventions as appropriate to the situation.
  • Answers and screens telephone calls, takes off and initiates medical orders.
