About The Position

The Division of Parks and Recreation preserves cultural and historic resources, from a Civil War-era fort to elegant estates. And it provides a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities for Delawareans and visitors. This position is a part of the Division Office of Volunteer and Community Involvement team and will have direct leadership and administration responsibilities for the volunteer programs within a region of parks in the Delaware State Parks system. The principal responsibilities of this position will include direct coordination, administration, and on site leadership of volunteer activity within the assigned parks, scheduling Volunteer Calendar events, recruitment, placement, and selection of volunteers including Hosts, and community groups and volunteers, and developing new volunteer engagement activities.

Requirements

  • One year experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
  • One year experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers.
  • Knowledge of natural, cultural, historical resources or parks and recreation.
  • Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

  • Provides volunteer management and coordination duties under the direction of the Office of Volunteer and Community Involvement.
  • Recruits, interviews and selects volunteers.
  • Supervises volunteers and volunteer service projects.
  • Assesses the need for volunteers and volunteer projects through consultation with park personnel.
  • Assigns and places volunteers.
  • Conducts volunteer orientation and training.
  • Coordinates volunteer recognition.
  • Maintains and reports on hours of service and other records as required.
  • Assists in Statewide volunteer events as requested.
  • Assists and coordinates with Friends organizations in each park.
  • Performs other related work as required
