About The Position

Parks Tacoma is seeking an ambitious team player with a strong sense of stewardship to join their operational grounds maintenance team. This role involves maintaining over 2000 acres of historical park property. Requirements

  • Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate knowledge and abilities in cleaning methods, grounds maintenance, and basic maintenance trades.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Ability to obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency within the probationary period.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain job-specific training, license, and certification as required.
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods, basic grounds maintenance procedures, and methods, equipment, and materials used in building and grounds maintenance care.
  • Knowledge of operation and use of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic materials, equipment, and terminology used in the maintenance trades.
  • Ability to learn procedures, methods, and schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers providing quality customer service.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment common to the maintenance trade.
  • Ability to maintain Park District facilities and parks in a clean, safe, and secure condition.
  • Ability to move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
  • Ability to perform general grounds maintenance duties including mowing, edging, and weeding.
  • Ability to assist others in specialized grounds keeping activities.
  • Ability to mow, edge, water, weed, fertilize, rake, and cultivate lawns, flower beds, athletic fields, and other landscaped areas.
  • Ability to assist other maintenance personnel in the maintenance and repair of Park District buildings and facilities and grounds.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance and repair on District furniture, buildings, fixtures, and facilities.
  • Ability to learn safe operation of a wide variety of power equipment related to janitorial, building trades, and grounds maintenance work.
  • Ability to interpret rules and regulations.
  • Ability to perform emergency first aid and CPR as needed and according to established guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively.
  • Ability to exert optimal effort in successfully completing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform custodial and cleanup functions including cleaning restrooms, toilets, sinks, mirrors, and walls.
  • Sweep, mop, and clean floors; vacuum carpets and rugs.
  • Perform annual deep cleaning and floor resurfacing.
  • Mow, rake, edge, fertilize, and water lawns, athletic fields, landscape beds, and assigned park landscape and grounds areas.
  • Plant, fertilize, water, trim, and prune shrubs, trees, and flowers as assigned.
  • Sweep and blow leaves, snow, and debris from walks and driveways; gather and remove trash from grounds.
  • Prepare rooms or facilities for special functions; move furniture, small bleachers, equipment, and other objects as required.
  • Operate all types of cleaning equipment, forklift, highlift, or other specialized equipment.
  • Operate Park District vehicles as assigned; learn the safe operation of equipment such as riding mowers, hand mowers, turf equipment, and trucks.
  • Assist in general maintenance, repair, and construction work in various maintenance trades, including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and painting.
  • Assist skilled maintenance personnel in the construction, installation, and maintenance of furniture, fences, playground equipment, cabinets, and shelving.
  • Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of utilities like gas, water, and electrical lines.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Provide work direction to seasonal staff and volunteers.
