About The Position

The Regional Environmental, Health & Safety Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing regional activities associated with Environmental, Health and Safety compliance. This role involves leading and directing EHS activities for water, wastewater, and public works operations projects within a designated region, reinforcing safety policies, providing daily guidance, and developing/implementing regulatory programs. The position requires a strong understanding of Federal and Regional regulations (OSHA and EPA), environmental compliance for water and wastewater treatment, and DOT regulations. Responsibilities include risk assessment, coordinating regulatory inspections, reviewing accidents, conducting field audits, maintaining knowledge of new regulations, developing and implementing EHS training, managing workers' compensation and insurance programs, overseeing EHS web-based systems, and assisting with business development. The role also requires adherence to all company health and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years of experience in safety management, environmental management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and directing the environmental, health and safety activities for water, wastewater, and public works operations projects in a designated region.
  • Reinforcing safe working techniques, and the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures set out by the Company.
  • Providing daily guidance and direction at the regional level to ensure a common and effective approach, assist with regulatory compliance and aid with incident and injury reduction.
  • Developing, implementing, and coordinating regulatory programs which help direct and support the compliance process.
  • Responsible for Environmental regulatory and reporting requirements including but not limited to NPDES, CWA, SDWA, EPCRA, RCRA, SPCC, RMP and other applicable air and waste regulations.
  • Understanding the environmental compliance regulatory environment for water and wastewater treatment (Clean Water Act – CWA, Safe Drinking Water Act – SDWA and National Pollution Discharge Elimination System – NPDES Permitting).
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation regulations (Federal and State) to assist with DOT compliance.
  • Assisting in the identification of possible losses; evaluating the risk in such loss exposure; developing and implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss and audit the plan to ensure its effectiveness.
  • Ensuring inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected.
  • Reviewing accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility, assisting or leading as necessary in corrective action development, and completion verification.
  • Conducting field reviews, inspections and audits, developing corrective actions and assisting, as necessary with implementation, and verifying completion of corrective actions.
  • Maintaining knowledge of new regulations and standards as they are introduced and/or changed that impact company operations.
  • Developing and implementing an EHS training matrix and ensuring required training is completed for employees in the assigned region.
  • Conducting training for management, field employees, and contractors regarding applicable EHS programs and procedures, as applicable or requested.
  • Developing, providing, and continuously improving on EHS and DOT Training programs that remain relevant to EHS initiatives.
  • Managing workers’ compensation, auto and other applicable insurance programs in the assigned region.
  • Managing the EHS web-based systems, including the Learning Management and Incident Management Systems in the assigned region.
  • Assisting with Business Development process including due diligence and transitions.
  • Understanding and adhering to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions.
