About The Position

In alignment with Microsoft values, this role is for a Regional Environmental Compliance Program Manager for the Americas region. The position involves managing the full spectrum of regulatory environmental requirements, including Federal, State, and local regulations with emphasis on air, water, waste management and water quality permitting, with a fundamental understanding of environmental management systems. The role requires identifying environmental aspects, ensuring Microsoft data centers remain in full compliance, communicating requirements to stakeholders and senior management, and providing training. This is an opportunity to work independently in-region, represent Microsoft, and continue learning new tools and working with other Environmental PMs globally and third-party environmental consultants. The position requires working on location in one of the data centers in the Americas region, with occasional travel. Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is responsible for delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services. Microsoft's infrastructure includes a large global portfolio of over 200 datacenters in 32 countries. Environmental sustainability and optimization are key to datacenter design and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field AND 4+ years experience in Environmental Health and Safety Worldwide Regulations OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Science, Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field AND 6+ years environmental health and safety worldwide regulations experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field AND 8+ years environmental health and safety worldwide regulations experience OR equivalent experience.
  • Global work experience (e.g., programs, laws, regulations, stakeholders).
  • Multinational organization experience.
  • 4+ years of combined experience in environmental permitting and compliance management in the US and Canada.
  • Experience with Enhesa, Regscan, EIA Tracker, Enablon, Intelex or similar tools.

Responsibilities

  • Manage environmental compliance program for operating sites and handover of construction projects to operations.
  • Support operations personnel in completing regulatory obligations and addressing permit requirements.
  • Interact with facility personnel, company management, legal counsel, environmental sustainability team, and other relevant internal stakeholders to communicate environmental requirements, identify compliance issues, act as a technical resource, and coordinate on key initiatives.
  • Define and implement necessary training for facility operations personnel for managing environmental issues.
  • Support site incident investigations.
  • Interact with regulatory agency personnel on major environmental issues.
  • Monitor development of legislative changes in Americas region, analyze potential impacts on operations, and provide updates to the site personnel.
