About The Position

The Regional Director of Human Resources—Midwest/West Coast will ensure that Seyfarth operates within the law at all times, offer counsel on human resources related issues, and serve as an effective human resources leader for day-to-day support for the Firm as well as oversight for the local office HR team in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles—Century City, Los Angeles—Downtown, Sacramento, San Francisco and Seattle. This role is a member of the Firm’s National Human Resources Department, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Human Resources.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • A minimum of ten years of human resources experience in large or mid-size law firms with multiple offices, with a minimum of four to five years in a HR management role
  • A strong ability to align talent strategy with business priorities
  • Deep HR acumen, with the ability to influence financial and operational decisions
  • Proven experience leading performance management, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives
  • Expertise in employee relations, including navigating sensitive, complex situations with sound judgment
  • A track record of building trust and credibility with senior leaders and HR team members
  • Exceptional communication skills (clear, concise, timely)
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and risk mitigation practices
  • Experience optimizing HR operations, HRIS, and processes for efficiency and scale
  • A data-driven mindset, using insights to inform decisions and measure impact
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented approach with the ability to lead through change and drive continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage a team of human resources operations staff across several offices
  • Interpret and implement human resource policies and procedures for attorneys and staff
  • Maintain proactive awareness of evolving local, state, and federal regulations; ensure compliance through clear communication and timely policy recommendations
  • Provide guidance and training to directors, managers and supervisors for human resource employee management including counseling, coaching, employee development and retention, warnings and performance improvement plans and termination recommendations
  • Work with Office Administrators in each office on performance management for support staff and paralegals and assist with salary and bonus recommendations
  • Work collaboratively with the national HR team including the Regional-East Coast Human Resources, Benefits and Compensation, Staff Professional Development, Staff Recruiting and HRIS teams
  • Collaborate with the local offices and Benefits team to manage leaves of absence and accommodation requests
  • Oversee new hire orientation, onboarding, and staff integration process
  • Conduct exit interviews and work with Staff Professional Development for reporting and analysis of results
  • Participate in firmwide project management initiatives
  • Serve as liaison between the Payroll Department and Human Resources
  • Coach, mentor and develop human resources operations staff while fostering a diverse, inclusive environment
