About The Position

The Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and oversight for all diocesan HR functions, including employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, compliance, training, and organizational development. This role ensures that HR policies and practices support the mission of the Church while promoting a healthy, professional, and faith aligned work environment across diocesan offices, parishes, and schools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field required
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive HR leadership experience preferred, ideally in nonprofit, education, or faith based environments.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and organizational development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clergy, religious, and lay staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing strongly preferred; must support and uphold the teachings, mission, and values of the Catholic Church.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • HR certifications (SHRM CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of HR policies, procedures, and programs that support diocesan goals and Catholic values.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to diocesan leadership, clergy, and ministry leaders on HR matters, employment law, and organizational culture.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to attract and support qualified, mission driven employees.
  • Manage employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management processes with fairness, confidentiality, and pastoral sensitivity.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and Church employment regulations, and work closely with the safe-environment office.
  • Direct compensation and benefits programs, including annual reviews and vendor relationships.
  • Develop and deliver training programs in leadership, HR compliance, workplace ethics, and professional development.
  • Support change management initiatives and organizational planning across diocesan entities.
  • Supervise HR staff and oversee departmental operations and budget.
