About The Position

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Human Resources Director serves as the company’s primary HR leader, responsible for developing, implementing, and leading all human resources functions across 100+ employees and multiple locations spanning seven states. This role provides both strategic leadership and hands-on execution in areas including compliance, employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, training and development, and organizational culture. This is a critical leadership role focused on building structure, ensuring compliance, strengthening employee engagement, and supporting the continued growth and success of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of US employment laws, compliance, and HR best practices
  • Experience managing employee relations, investigations, and performance management processes
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms, preferably ADP
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels
  • Extremely high level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
  • Organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or professional HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR strongly preferred
  • Exposure to labor relations and union environments, including collective bargaining, grievance handling, or contract interpretation, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the HR leader for the organization, providing strategic direction and day-to-day support
  • Evaluate current HR practices and build scalable systems, policies, and processes
  • Partner with leadership to support organizational growth and succession planning
  • Help define and shape company culture, employee engagement, and retention strategies
  • Oversee and develop existing HR staff while building additional HR infrastructure as needed
  • Ensure compliance across multiple states and jurisdictions with varying employment laws
  • Develop, update, and maintain employee handbook, policies, and procedures
  • Provide guidance on employee relations issues, investigations, and disciplinary actions
  • Partner with leadership on risk mitigation and best practices in labor and employment matters
  • Serve as a resource to leadership on labor relations matters, including union interactions, contract interpretation, and grievance processes
  • Support safety and compliance initiatives, including maintaining and managing third-party contractor and safety platforms such as Avetta to ensure accurate records and adherence to customer and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain proper documentation, recordkeeping, and HR compliance standards across all locations
  • Lead recruitment strategy and execution for all levels of the organization
  • Partner with leadership to identify hiring needs and define job requirements
  • Oversee onboarding processes to ensure a positive and consistent employee experience
  • Develop strategies to attract, retain, and develop high-quality talent
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees regarding workplace concerns and conflict resolution
  • Develop and implement performance management processes, including evaluations and feedback systems
  • Coach managers on leadership, accountability, and effective employee management practices
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and productive work environment
  • Identify training needs and develop programs to support employee growth and leadership development
  • Provide guidance and support for management training, including compliance-related topics
  • Support the professional development of employees at all levels of the organization
  • Oversee HR processes including employee records, onboarding, offboarding, and documentation
  • Partner with payroll and benefits administration to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Evaluate and recommend HR systems, tools, and process improvements
  • Lead the management of employee benefits programs, including working with and negotiating with insurance brokers on plan design, renewals, and cost strategies to ensure competitive and sustainable offerings
