About The Position

The Regional Director of Environment of Care (EOC) is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and operational support for Environment of Care, Life Safety, and facility operations across an assigned region of Freedom Healthcare hospitals. The Regional EOC Director is responsible for ensuring that all facilities within the assigned region maintain a safe, secure, compliant, and well-maintained environment for patients, employees, and visitors. This position requires regular travel between assigned hospitals and serves as the primary regional resource for Environment of Care, Life Safety, facility maintenance, and related operational functions. The Regional EOC Director provides oversight and guidance for facility operations related to maintenance, physical plant operations, environmental services/housekeeping, dietary, transportation, life safety, emergency preparedness, and facility safety. The Regional Director works closely with Hospital Administrators, facility EOC leaders, Quality, and Corporate leadership to identify operational and regulatory risks, establish corrective action plans, and ensure identified deficiencies are corrected and sustained. The position is responsible for supporting compliance with applicable CMS, state, federal, accreditation, Life Safety Code, Environment of Care, and organizational requirements. The Regional EOC Director conducts routine facility assessments, reviews required documentation, monitors regulatory compliance, supports survey readiness, and ensures consistent EOC processes and expectations are maintained throughout the assigned region. A key responsibility of this position is providing leadership, training, and accountability to facility-level EOC and maintenance teams. The Regional Director ensures preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, repairs, safety rounds, and corrective actions are completed accurately and within established timeframes. The Regional EOC Director also participates in applicable Safety/Environment of Care Committees, Hazardous Materials and Waste activities, emergency preparedness initiatives, regulatory survey activities, and performance improvement efforts throughout the assigned region.

Requirements

Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in healthcare facilities management, Environment of Care, Life Safety, maintenance, or related operations, preferably within a hospital, behavioral health, psychiatric, forensic, or nursing facility setting.
Strong knowledge of Environment of Care and Life Safety requirements within healthcare settings.
Working knowledge of CMS, state, federal, accreditation, and applicable healthcare facility regulations.
Knowledge of preventive maintenance, fire and Life Safety systems, emergency preparedness, facility inspections, and physical plant operations.
Strong leadership and multi-facility management skills.
Ability to manage multiple hospitals, projects, deadlines, and competing priorities.
Ability to identify deficiencies and develop, implement, and monitor corrective action plans.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with facility and Corporate leadership.
Ability to interpret regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, inspection reports, and technical documentation.
Proficiency with computers and electronic documentation systems.
Ability to provide training, coaching, direction, and accountability to facility-level teams.
Understanding of the unique Environment of Care and safety requirements associated with behavioral health and forensic healthcare environments.
Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, engineering, healthcare administration, safety, construction management, or a related field preferred.
Relevant experience in the building trades, facility operations, Life Safety, or Environment of Care within a healthcare setting may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Previous experience overseeing multiple facilities or providing regional operational oversight is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide regional leadership and oversight of Environment of Care and Life Safety programs for all assigned hospitals.
Travel routinely to each facility within the assigned region to conduct EOC rounds, Life Safety inspections, facility assessments, and compliance reviews.
Monitor the maintenance, repair, condition, and operational integrity of hospital buildings, grounds, equipment, utilities, and facility systems.
Provide oversight and support for maintenance, environmental services/housekeeping, dietary, transportation, and other assigned support departments.
Ensure preventive maintenance, required inspections, testing, drills, and associated documentation are completed according to regulatory and organizational requirements.
Identify Environment of Care, Life Safety, facility, and operational deficiencies and work with facility leadership to establish corrective action plans.
Conduct follow-up reviews to verify that corrective actions have been completed and improvements are sustained.
Assist hospitals with preparation for state, federal, CMS, accreditation, Life Safety, and other regulatory surveys.
Provide on-site support during regulatory surveys as needed and assist facilities with Plans of Correction and follow-up activities.
Establish and maintain standardized EOC processes, documentation, expectations, and best practices across facilities within the assigned region.
Provide education, training, coaching, and accountability to facility EOC, maintenance, environmental services, and other applicable staff.
Review regional EOC documentation and identify trends, recurring deficiencies, and areas of regulatory risk.
Monitor compliance with fire safety, emergency preparedness, hazardous materials and waste management, security, utilities management, medical equipment requirements, and other applicable EOC standards.
Partner with Hospital Administrators, Quality, Nursing, and other department leaders to address environmental or facility concerns that may impact patient care or employee safety.
Maintain communication with Corporate leadership regarding significant facility concerns, regulatory risks, capital needs, corrective actions, and ongoing projects.
Track regional EOC performance measures, deficiencies, corrective actions, and outstanding compliance items.
Support capital improvement, repair, renovation, and facility improvement projects as assigned.
Assist facility leadership with vendor oversight and coordination of facility-related services when necessary.
Ensure hospitals within the assigned region maintain safe, functional, clean, secure, and therapeutic environments appropriate for the populations served.
Perform other duties as assigned based on organizational and operational needs.
