About The Position

The Regional Chief Clinical Officer is the senior-most physician executive for Jefferson’s East Region and the operational leader accountable for regional clinical quality, safety, and performance across a growing, multi-hospital region within one of the nation’s largest non-profit academic health systems. A member of the East Region leadership team and a key member of the system Chief Clinical Officer Cabinet, this leader translates enterprise clinical strategy into local execution—leading physicians and clinical operations across the region and partnering with regional operational, nursing, and enterprise leaders to deliver exceptional, equitable, and reliable care, standardize evidence-based practice, advance value-based care, and strengthen the recruitment, retention, and engagement of clinical talent.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited and approved school of medicine; Board-certified physician with current state license or unencumbered eligibility.
  • 10 years of clinical practice with demonstrated achievement and 7 years in a complex medical leadership role with demonstrated results in Quality and Safety for a Healthcare/Provider organization; experience within an academic or teaching setting.
  • Experience in clinical Quality and Safety, physician management, clinical integration, clinical program, and service-line deployment focused on growth and improved clinical outcomes.
  • Previous experience in leveraging electronic medical records systems and contemporary methods of clinical quality measurement and improvement.
  • Experience in conflict resolution, problem solving, negotiation, and team building.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in budgetary and operational management.
  • Demonstrated comfort and success working in a highly matrixed, complex organization coupled with the ability to lead and accomplish goals through influence and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the senior-most physician leader for the East Region and a member of the East Region leadership team, providing hands-on operational leadership for clinical quality, safety, and physician performance across the region’s hospitals and ambulatory sites, and partnering in a physician–operations dyad with regional and nursing leadership to set and execute the clinical agenda.
  • As a key member of the system Chief Clinical Officer Cabinet, translates enterprise clinical, quality, and safety strategy into regional execution and brings regional insight back to the enterprise, helping shape system-wide standards while leveraging the scale, complexity, and network of one of the nation’s largest non-profit health systems to grow clinical programs and respond to community needs.
  • Builds and empowers a multidisciplinary regional team, hospital and medical staff leadership, associate medical directors, quality and safety staff, and employed and aligned physicians across hospitals and ambulatory sites—with results measured through clinical excellence, seamless transitions of care, patient, physician, and colleague experience, and the outcomes of regulatory and accreditation reviews.
  • Identifies and leads regional opportunities to improve clinical outcomes, process measures, resource utilization, patient-centered care coordination, patient experience, and the overall value of care, using evidence-based guidelines and clinical tools to reduce unwarranted variation and optimize results.
  • Demonstrates a strategic orientation to the future direction of healthcare delivery, advancing the system’s clinical quality regionally and nationally.
  • In partnership with enterprise and regional leaders, guides the region’s transformation to a seamless continuum of care, strategically, structurally, clinically, including leverage of the electronic health record, and plans, communicates, and leads the execution of quality and safety programs.
  • Champions the development and sustainability of a culture of quality, safety, and high reliability, leveraging the system’s OnPoint quality and event-reporting platforms to advance data-informed improvement, reliable reporting of events and great catches, meaningful gap closure, and proactive mitigation of identified risks.
  • Drives a regional focus on health equity and patient- and family-centered care in collaboration with aligned enterprise leaders and groups.
  • Serves as a transformational change leader who motivates and engages others around a common vision, proactively guiding clinicians in advancing value-based care and navigating evolving reimbursement and managed-care models.
  • Builds physician leadership bench strength and develops the next generation of leaders across the regional clinical enterprise, fostering productive relationships among clinical leaders and creating programs that encourage front-line physician participation, engagement, empowerment, and ownership of the regional clinical agenda and its affiliated physicians.
  • Models interactions with colleagues, patients, visitors, and other staff in a manner consistent with the values of Jefferson and its Code of Conduct.
