About The Position

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is seeking a Regional Advocacy Manager for Latin America to serve as a lead advocate in advancing The IIA's public policy, government relations, and thought leadership goals across the region. This role will partner closely with The IIA's Latin American national institutes and the Fundación Latinoamericana de Auditores Internos (FLAI) to advance legislative, regulatory, corporate governance, and other public policy priorities. The Regional Advocacy Manager will build relationships with policymakers and key stakeholders, monitor legislative and regulatory developments, identify emerging political risks and opportunities, and develop advocacy resources that help strengthen the internal audit profession throughout Latin America. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with experience in public policy, government affairs, government relations, advocacy, or association work who brings strong knowledge of the Latin American policy environment and is comfortable working across countries, cultures, and stakeholder groups.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Political Science, Economics, Auditing, Accounting, Public Policy, or a related field.
At least four years of relevant experience working for an elected official, legislative body, regulatory or government agency, membership organization, or corporation while actively engaged in public policymaking, lobbying, government relations, or advocacy.
Full professional fluency in Spanish and English, both written and verbal.
Strong understanding of the public policy, legislative, regulatory, government relations, or advocacy environment.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with people from diverse backgrounds while exercising a high level of cultural and political sensitivity.
Experience managing and prioritizing multiple high-profile projects while meeting critical deadlines.
Strong management skills and the ability to lead through influence, collaboration, and consensus.
Self-motivated and able to work independently with strong attention to detail.
Strong research, analytical, and writing skills, including the ability to translate technical or complex topics into clear language for a broad audience.
Ability to effectively communicate and present information to senior leadership, public groups, elected officials and their staff, boards of directors, and other key stakeholders.
Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Basic proficiency with AI applications such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude for research, editing, content drafting, workflow optimization, and task automation.
Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout Latin America and internationally.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or law degree.
Portuguese language proficiency or fluency.
Familiarity with one or more policy areas relevant to The IIA's work, including internal auditing, ESG/climate, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fraud, corporate governance, risk, internal controls, data privacy, or blockchain.

Responsibilities

Support The IIA's Latin American national institutes in developing and advancing their legislative, regulatory, corporate governance, and other public policy strategies and goals.
Help national institutes educate policymakers about internal auditing, The IIA, and its certifications and standards.
Serve as The IIA's primary advocacy liaison to FLAI, providing regular updates, soliciting input on public policy and advocacy activities, and partnering to advance a unified vision for internal audit and corporate governance policy across Latin America.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, government leaders, NGOs, professional associations, think tanks, and leaders within the corporate governance ecosystem.
Research and maintain a database of internal audit and corporate governance policies, laws, and regulations across Latin America.
Monitor and engage on relevant public consultations throughout the region.
Track legislative proposals, hearings, rules, regulations, public comment periods, and other government policy developments.
Advocate for recommendations contained in The IIA's Global Public Policy Position Paper (GP4) and other official IIA advocacy positions.
Identify emerging political risks and opportunities across Latin America and recommend appropriate responses in support of The IIA, FLAI, national institutes, the internal audit profession, and the public.
Develop advocacy resources, including draft legislation and regulations, educational materials, hearing testimony, videos, comment letters, position papers, briefing memos, presentations, research reports, how-to guides, and model memoranda of understanding.
Support The IIA's global advocacy initiatives and partnerships, identifying opportunities to align Latin American and global advocacy strategies.
