About The Position

The Red Shield Assistant Program Manager plays a key role in shaping meaningful, mission-driven programming for children and youth at the Red Shield After School Program and Summer Day Camp. Working closely with the Red Shield Program Manager, this position helps guide program growth and ensures that Red Shield initiatives support the overall youth ministry of the Colorado Springs Corps. The Assistant PM also supports essential administrative and compliance responsibilities that keep the program safe, effective, and welcoming. Functions as the Interim Program Manager in the Program Manager’s absence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, college coursework preferred
  • At least 1 full year working with school-age children leading programs
  • Past work and education must lead to state approval for being a licensed childcare director as deemed by the state of Colorado
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to learn internal software
  • PDIS and other software pertaining to childcare
  • Detail oriented
  • Exhibits consistent reliability, flexibility, and a coachable, growth-oriented mindset
  • Team player and can also work without direct supervision

  • Able to reflect and model the high standards of our organization
  • The employee must be 21 years old at a minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver’s license
  • An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies
  • Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies
  • Ability to maneuver, to remain in a stationary position, to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead, to lift 25 pounds, to access and produce information from the computer, to operate a telephone, to understand written information

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day activities in coordination with the Program Manager
  • Support daily afterschool and summer operations, providing supervision, guidance, and care in academic, enrichment, and recreational settings
  • Offer leadership support for Corps ministry elements integrated into youth programming
  • Ensure all childcare licensing standards are met and maintained including ratios
  • Assist with planning and delivering lessons, activities, and homework support
  • Provide encouraging, strength-based instruction during group activities
  • Assist with meal preparation, service, and cleanup
  • Submit maintenance requests and help care for program facilities and equipment
  • Maintain accurate rosters, attendance, and documentation
  • Create staff schedules and coordinate off-site field trips which would include driving
  • Support training and onboarding of new staff members
  • Promote positive behavior and help children follow program expectations
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and facility opening/closing
  • Oversee rotations, sign-in/sign-out, and daily transitions
  • Lead activities that support learning, creativity, and relationship-building
  • Ensure all children are supervised appropriately and accounted for at all times
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment
  • Follow all PTM requirements and ensure PTM standards are upheld
  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings
  • Assist the Program Manager with administrative tasks, paperwork, and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned
