About The Position

This position is in the Office of Human Resources and focuses on ensuring that the workforce is professional, skilled, and dedicated to the department's values and goals, while providing essential support services that enhance the safety and security of the correctional environment. This is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of recruitment and selection best practices.
  • Knowledge of hiring compliance requirements (e.g., F.S. 110, F.A.C. 60L).
  • Ability to conduct and document background investigations.
  • Ability to analyze candidate qualifications and make eligibility determinations.
  • Ability to prepare accurate and timely personnel actions (PARs) in People First.
  • Strong research, data analysis, and report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting, data management, and creating charts or visual aids.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, managers, and applicants via telephone and email.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • One year of human resource experience, preferably in areas such as recruitment, onboarding, personnel administration, or related HR functions involving applicant processing, or providing support to hiring managers.
  • One year of experience conducting background checks or employment eligibility reviews and making determinations based on findings.
  • Must be willing to work in office Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using HR information systems; People First experience preferred.
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal and state employment laws, personnel policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sound research, analysis, and reports that enhance recruitment efforts.
  • Handle all tasks related to hiring and recruitment for the Florida Department of Corrections, including understanding and using personnel rules and agreements.
  • Research and advertise job openings in the People First System according to department policies.
  • Guide managers and employees on using the Hiring Center in the People First System.
  • Check documents to ensure they follow federal and state hiring guidelines.
  • Conduct background investigations on potential employees and discuss results with hiring managers.
  • Review job applications to determine if candidates are eligible, ensuring all candidates are fairly considered.
  • Discuss any concerns with hiring managers.
  • Prepare Personnel Action Requests (PARs) in People First.
  • Use various computer programs to manage recruitment data and create reports.
  • Provide supervisors with management reports and create visual aids like graphs and charts for presentations.
  • Maintain and compile data related to recruitment and other management areas.
