About The Position

The Recreation Therapy Aide develops and implements recreation programs and services for residents that are socially, physically, and cognitively stimulating. Programs include small groups, special events, entertainment, and one-to-one activities, and should be adjusted to meet residents’ individual needs. The aide encourages and escorts residents to activities when necessary, maintains participation logs, and may plan or accompany residents on outings. The role also includes attending required meetings and educational programs, following universal precautions and MSDS guidance, and reviewing new-resident evaluations completed by the Recreation Manager. Evening and weekend hours are possible.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to push and pull wheelchairs, climb ladders, use push carts for decorations or supplies, and stand and walk extensively.
Ability to work under quarantine conditions and follow universal precautions.
Ability to work occasional long hours and manage ongoing exposure to resident behaviors.

Responsibilities

Create and implement activity plans, including small groups, special events, and entertainment.
Motivate residents to participate in planned groups or one-to-one activities, modifying programs to meet individual needs.
Encourage resident participation and provide escorts when necessary.
Maintain participation logs for programs.
Attend required meetings and participate in mandated educational programs and in-services.
Plan and/or accompany residents on outings.
Understand and follow universal precautions and MSDS books.
Review evaluations of new residents completed by the Recreation Manager.
