About The Position

The Recreation Therapy Aide develops and implements recreation programs and services that are socially, physically, and cognitively stimulating for residents. Programs include small groups, special events, entertainment, one-to-one activities, and outings. Activities are adapted to residents’ individual needs, and the aide encourages participation, provides escorts when needed, and maintains program participation logs. The position also involves attending required meetings and educational programs, following universal precautions and MSDS guidance, and reviewing new-resident evaluations completed by the Recreation Manager. Evening and weekend hours are possible.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to push and pull wheelchairs, climb ladders for tasks such as decorating, and use push carts for decorations or supplies.
Ability to stand and walk extensively.
Ability to work under quarantine and follow universal precautions.
Ability to work occasional long hours.
Ongoing exposure to resident behaviors.

Responsibilities

Create and implement activity plans for residents, including small groups, special events, and entertainment.
Motivate residents to participate in planned groups or one-to-one activities and modify programs to meet individual needs.
Encourage resident participation and provide escorts when necessary.
Maintain participation logs for programs.
Attend meetings as required and participate in mandated educational programs and in-services.
Plan and/or accompany residents on outings.
Understand and follow universal precautions and MSDS books.
Review evaluations of new residents completed by the Recreation Manager.
