About The Position

The Recreation Therapy Aide develops and implements recreation programs and services for residents that are socially, physically, and cognitively stimulating. Programs include small groups, special events, entertainment, and one-to-one activities, and should be adapted to residents’ individual needs. The aide encourages resident participation, provides escorts when needed, and may plan or accompany residents on outings. The role also includes reviewing evaluations of new residents, completing dementia training to support memory care dining, attending required meetings and educational programs, and following universal precautions and MSDS guidance. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to perform the physical demands described, including pushing and pulling wheelchairs, climbing ladders, using push carts, and extensive standing and walking.
Ability to work under quarantine and universal precautions and manage occasional long hours and ongoing exposure to resident behaviors.

Responsibilities

Create and implement activity plans, including small groups, special events, and entertainment.
Motivate residents to participate in planned groups or one-to-one activities, modifying programs to meet individual needs.
Encourage resident participation and provide an escort if necessary.
Attend meetings as required and participate in mandated educational programs and in-services.
Plan and/or accompany residents on outings.
Understand and follow universal precautions and MSDS books.
Review evaluations of new residents completed by the Memory Care Resource Coordinator.
Complete dementia training routinely and as needed to foster a supportive dining experience for memory care residents.
Perform other duties as assigned.
