About The Position

The Recreation Therapy Aide develops and implements recreation programs and services for residents that are socially, physically, and cognitively stimulating. The aide creates activities suited to residents’ individual needs, encourages participation in group and one-to-one programs, and provides escorts when necessary. The role may include evening and weekend hours, accompanying residents on trips, and working under quarantine and universal-precaution requirements. The aide is expected to provide person-centered care that demonstrates dignity, respect, compassion, coordinated support, and personalized treatment.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent.
Public Service License.
Ability to push and pull wheelchairs, climb ladders, use push carts for decorations or supplies, and stand and walk extensively.
Ability to work under quarantine and universal-precaution requirements and occasionally work long hours.

Responsibilities

Create and implement activity plans for residents, including small groups, special events, and entertainment.
Motivate residents to participate in planned groups or one-to-one activities, modifying programs to meet individual needs.
Encourage resident participation and provide escorts when necessary.
Maintain participation logs for programs.
Attend required meetings and participate in mandated educational programs and in-services.
Plan and/or accompany residents on out trips.
Understand and follow universal precautions and MSDS books.
Review evaluations of new residents completed by the Manager of Recreation.
