About The Position

UCP Long Island is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to advancing the independence, productivity, and full citizenship of individuals with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. With over 75 years of experience, we are committed to our mission of Creating Life Without Limits for People With Disabilities. We are seeking a part-time Recreation Therapist to provide support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. This role involves 13.5 hours per week with a flexible schedule.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university.
One to six months of related experience.
Valid NYS Driver license.
At least 1-year licensed driving experience.

Responsibilities

Structure, incorporate, and monitor meaningful individualized group activities for people with developmental disabilities.
Develop and conduct a program of meaningful activities, including those that are intellectually stimulating, augment health maintenance, encourage community participation, and involve volunteers.
Plan, evaluate, and structure a recreation program that integrates into each individual's daily activity schedule, including developing, monitoring, and updating treatment goals and objectives.
Create a monthly recreation calendar of activities for residents, providing information on outings for program participants and staff.
Ensure the availability of equipment and supplies for programming and leisure-time activities.
Maintain current and representative information on individuals' present functioning and development levels, including annual evaluations of strengths and needs, recreational skills, annual assessments, interim reviews, monthly summaries, and monitoring data sheets related to recreation goals and objectives.
Ensure all goals and records comply with State and Federal regulations.
Plan, research, and develop community outings, such as sports activities.
Coordinate transportation for outings with other residences.
Evaluate and help achieve treatment goals in conjunction with other disciplines, and implement individual recreation programs as needed.
Participate in decision-making regarding overall programming and resident well-being.
Attend scheduled quarterly, annual, and team meetings.
Supervise, instruct, and demonstrate programs and activities to staff who will implement them, providing follow-up to monitor staff and programs.
Coordinate a schedule of planned activities and dedicate time to hands-on training with program participants and staff.
Conduct on-site in-service training for staff.
Attend community activities with staff/participants as needed.
