About The Position

Working on behalf of the entire university community, campus recreation is the campus leader in providing opportunities that meet the rising national standards and evolving trends in health, fitness and holistic wellness. Under the direction of the Associate Athletics Director for Campus Recreation and Special Events, the Recreation Programming Specialist is responsible for the daily planning, staffing and administration of intramural sports programs on the Hawk Hill campus, as well as the University City campus. This position also provides support to the Associate Athletics Director for Campus Recreation and the Facilities and Recreation Programming Specialist by assisting with club sports programs, marketing and communications and facility supervision as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and previous experience in an Intercollegiate Athletics or Campus Recreation Department as a participant or staff member.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • High-level problem-solving and critical thinking skills, strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize tasks, and be decisive in a fast-paced dynamic environment and under pressure.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with diverse constituents.
  • Understand the need for a customer service-focused approach.
  • Adherence to NCAA and member conference rules and regulations.
  • May be required to obtain First Aid, CPR, motor vehicle safety certification, and other job-related certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a Division I Department of Athletics or Campus Recreation as a staff member, intern, student worker or student leader.
  • Previous experience supervising/leading student staff.
  • Previous experience in facilities management duties.
  • Previous experience with budgeting, purchasing, or inventory control.
  • Understand and appreciate the role and importance of facilities and campus recreation programming in the student experience and the recruiting process.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall leadership and administration of all intramural sport programming, including selection of sport offerings, setting and enforcing policies and procedures, scheduling, staffing, and supervision of all games and tournaments.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and manage payroll for student workers to assist with the oversight of intramural programming.
  • Solicit feedback and periodically assess the needs and interests of the campus community in regards to new programs or modifications to existing offerings to align with current trends in the industry.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to identify synergies, offer unique programming, and promote attendance and engagement in campus activities.
  • Represent Saint Joseph’s University at Philadelphia City 6 meetings and competitions as appropriate.
  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and inventory control related to areas of oversight.
  • Assist with regular inspections of recreation facilities and coordinate with University facilities, housekeeping, contracted third parties, etc. to ensure facilities and associated equipment are clean, safe, and properly maintained.
  • Assist with creating and leading educational sessions for club sport and intramural sport leaders and athletes related to university rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with marketing and communication efforts for the department including website updates, as well as social media and in venue digital display content.
  • Foster a commitment to diversity, inclusiveness and a sense of belonging throughout all aspects of the department, including but not limited to, facilities, staffing, events, and programming.
  • Participate in University events that support the academic mission of the institution and the work of students, student organizations and the Department of Athletics and Recreation team as needed.
  • The person who holds this position has been classified as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

Benefits

  • Annual Salary Range: $35,658 – $36,573.
  • This position operates on a 10-month work schedule, with the annual salary distributed over a full 12-month pay cycle.
