About The Position

Working on behalf of the entire university community, campus recreation is the campus leader in providing opportunities that meet the rising national standards and evolving trends in health, fitness and holistic wellness. Under the direction of the Associate Athletics Director for Campus Recreation and Special Events, the Facilities and Recreation Programming Specialist is responsible for the daily operations, management, staffing, and supervision of all activities and programming in recreation facilities, including the O’Pake Fitness and Recreation Center and Esports lab on the Hawk Hill campus, as well as the Woodland Fitness Center on the University City campus. The position provides oversight to all standard club sports and is a key liaison for campus partners in the Office of Facilities Management, the Office of Public Safety and Security, Conferences and Event Services and Student Employment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and previous experience in an Intercollegiate Athletics or Campus Recreation Department as a participant or staff member.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • High-level problem-solving and critical thinking skills, strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize tasks, and be decisive in a fast-paced dynamic environment and under pressure.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with diverse constituents.
  • Understand the need for a customer service-focused approach.
  • Adherence to NCAA and member conference rules and regulations.
  • May be required to obtain First Aid, CPR, motor vehicle safety certification, and other job-related certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a Division I Department of Athletics or Campus Recreation as a staff member, intern, student worker or student leader.
  • Previous experience supervising/leading student staff.
  • Previous experience in facilities management duties.
  • Previous experience with budgeting, purchasing, or inventory control.
  • Understand and appreciate the role and importance of facilities and campus recreation programming in the student experience and the recruiting process.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of recreation facilities and coordinate with University facilities, housekeeping, contracted third parties, etc. to ensure facilities and associated equipment are clean, safe, and properly maintained.
  • Serve as the primary scheduling contact for all recreation indoor and outdoor facilities and programming.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Conferences and Event Services to schedule and support University events hosted in recreation facilities.
  • Oversee all aspects of our standard club sports programs including advising and support to individual teams regarding recruitment, registration/onboarding, practice and game scheduling, injury reporting and insurance claims, budget and purchasing, inventory and equipment, travel, fundraising, goal setting, and marketing and communications.
  • Assist with creating and leading educational sessions for club sport and intramural sport leaders and athletes related to university rules, policies, and procedures. Including, but not limited to budget policies, transportation policies, disciplinary policies, practice and game scheduling policies, fund raising, etc.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and manage payroll for student workers to assist with facility and program management.
  • Foster a commitment to diversity, inclusiveness and a sense of belonging throughout all aspects of the department, including but not limited to, facilities, staffing, events, and programming.
  • Work closely with supervisor on issues related to student health and safety, including provision of care, emergency plans, insurance, and maintenance of medical information
  • Collaborate with university marketing and communications, as well as internal staff and sport leaders, to maintain office website, promotional materials, and other social network media.
  • Participate in University events that support the academic mission of the institution and the work of students, student organizations and the Department of Athletics and Recreation team as needed.
  • The person who holds this position has been classified as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

Benefits

  • Annual Salary Range: $38,000 – $40,000. Starting salary is commensurate with experience and educational background.
