About The Position

The Recreation Supervisor (Recreation Programming/Aquatics) performs a variety of complex professional and administrative work in planning, developing, scheduling, directing, and implementing comprehensive year-round, city-wide park and recreation and aquatic programs. This is a safety-sensitive and/or DOT position, requiring participation in random drug testing. The role involves administering programs, making decisions in accordance with established rules and regulations, and participating in the development of department policies. Responsibilities include maintaining records, preparing reports, overseeing contractors, assisting with budget preparation and monitoring expenditures, and preparing special reports for the Assistant Director. The position directly oversees day-to-day aquatic operations at Hometown Heroes and Walker Pools, supporting operational efficiency and program growth of swim operations, including swim lesson coordination, scheduling, instructor oversight, parent communication, program quality control, and daily operational management. It also oversees rental and registration activities, recreation programming, custodial staff at the Community Center, and summer camp. The role involves supervising recreation staff and volunteers, including training, determining workloads, implementing policies, evaluating staff, and making hiring and disciplinary recommendations. Support and assistance may be provided in other programming areas such as athletics, special events, and youth programs. All other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation or related field.
  • At least three years of experience in aquatics and recreational programming.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the City.

Responsibilities

  • Administers programs and processes and makes decisions in accordance with established rules and regulations, policies and procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports of work activities.
  • Collects data to coordinate program activities with other Parks and Recreation department programs.
  • Oversees and inspects work of private contractors.
  • Assists in the preparation of the department budget.
  • Prepares and submits budget for assigned division and program areas.
  • Monitors budget expenditures.
  • Prepares cost estimates for maintenance, repair, and program activities.
  • Prepares special reports for the Assistant Director of Parks and Cultural Services regarding needs and effectiveness of services in assigned areas.
  • Oversees the day-to-day aquatic operations at Hometown Heroes and Walker Pools, including usage, rental, special events, city usage and community programming of park facilities.
  • Support operational efficiency and program growth of swim operations, including swim lesson coordination, scheduling, instructor oversight, parent communication, program quality control, and daily operational management.
  • Oversees rental and registration activities and ensures accurate record keeping for program receipts.
  • Oversees recreation programming.
  • Oversees custodial staff at Community Center.
  • Oversees summer camp.
  • Supervises recreation staff and volunteers, including training staff, determining workloads and schedules, implementing and interpreting policies and procedures, effectively evaluating staff and making hiring and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Provides support and assistance in other programming areas such as athletics, special events, and youth programs.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
