About The Position

The Recreation Coordinator assists in planning and supervising the facility’s recreational program in an institutional, secure setting. The role coordinates and supervises daily recreational and leisure activities for inmates/residents, including athletic games, print shop, craft shop, and other hobby programs. The coordinator also supports the facility security plan, maintains recreation supplies and equipment, ensures recreational areas are safe and sanitary, and prepares required reports and documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent.
• Sixty credit hours of college coursework in Recreational Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or an acceptable related field; acceptable related recreation experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• One year of experience supervising recreation or leisure activities.
• Ability to supervise a recreation program and communicate clearly with participants and staff.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Experience with custody and control of inmates/residents.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and supervising the facility’s overall recreational program.
• Coordinate and supervise daily recreational and leisure activities according to the building schedule.
• Supervise inmates/residents in support of the facility security plan.
• Maintain and conduct physical inventories of supplies, tools, and equipment to prevent waste, loss, and damage.
• Order replacement items in a timely manner and in accordance with facility purchasing procedures.
• Arrange for appropriate equipment and facilities to be available in designated areas as required.
• Maintain and monitor the safety and sanitation of recreational areas.
• Prepare and distribute safety and accident reports, statistical reports, and other documents required by policy.
• Take appropriate action in cases of serious or unusual incidents and emergencies.
