About The Position

Join our Parks and Recreation team as a Recreation Coordinator and help grow one of the region's premier year-round outdoor recreation programs. This dynamic role leads recreation programming, special events, facility operations, and community partnerships that create exceptional experiences for all ages. You'll oversee seasonal operations at Cone Park, including managing the winter snow tubing program, supervising staff, and ensuring safe, high-quality guest experiences. During the warmer months, you'll support trail stewardship, mountain biking initiatives, and other outdoor recreation opportunities. Knowledge of the methods, practices and trends of community based recreation program administration; knowledge of the methods, practices, and trends of winter, aquatics , outdoor ice rinks, and other recreation activities; ability to select, train and supervise facility and recreational staff; thorough knowledge of first-aid methods and safety precautions to be used in administration of a wide range of recreation programs; ability to resolve conflicts; scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others; knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, this includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

Regularly lifts up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Leisure Studies, Parks and Recreation or a related field; or Graduation from an accredited area college with an Associate’s Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field and 2 years of full-time experience in the recreation field; or Four years of full-time work experience in recreation, facility management or closely related field. or Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

Serves as coordinator for the recreation department facilities and programming.
Plans, supervises, and directs events for the daily operations and programs at Cone Park, swimming pools, Expo Center and other recreation buildings.
Supervises and evaluates the work of a subordinate staff; effectively recommends personnel actions related to selection, performance, leaves of absence, grievances, work schedules and assignments, disciplinary procedures and administers personnel and related policies and procedures.
Solicits the services of, and trains volunteers, as necessary, to satisfactorily coordinate events held through the Parks and Recreation Department.
Responds to inquiries, complaints and requests from the general public.
Assists with social media management for the department.
Coordinates daily operations/private rentals at Cone Park, Expo Center, Swimming Pools and other City recreation facilities.
Create, implement, and oversee recreational programming.
Oversees the Sioux City Parks and Recreation Camp Programs.
Participates in short-term and long-term strategic planning efforts for programming, Cone Park, Expo Center, swimming pools and other Departmental facilities and programs as assigned.
Setup tables, chairs, audio-visual, concession, soccer goals, basketball hoops, aquatic and other equipment as needed for scheduled events.
Maintains regular and punctual attendance at work.
Carry out other duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.
Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency.
In the event that an employee is excused from work other than being sick, they will be required to report to work in a state of declared emergency.
