About The Position

This is an internal job posting, available only to current Montgomery County Government employees. The Montgomery County Department of Recreation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Recreation Coordinator to support community, neighborhood, and county-wide special events and manage the department’s warehouse. The responsibilities include organizing, administering, coordinating, and facilitating a range of community and specialized recreational program activities that are limited in scope, size, and complexity. The department manages 39 facilities and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs and therapeutic recreation.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of recreation work experience involving planning, organizing, and directing recreational activities or special interest recreation program activities/services.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence when required for job-related duties.
  • Work during nontraditional hours, including early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting 20 pounds or more.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
  • Attendance at activities and meetings, and performance of work, at locations outside the assigned facility.
  • Completion of mandatory trainings within the first three to six months of employment, or within the timeframe specified, to support a positive workplace and ensure compliance with federal, state, and County laws.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring compliance with the rules on the use of the facility and equipment
  • Developing and conducting surveys and program evaluations
  • Participating in the planning and execution of community and county-wide events and specialized recreational programs and activities typically occurring on weekends, early mornings and evenings
  • Maintaining scheduled use of the facility using recreation-specific activities software, such as RecTrac
  • Assisting with program implementation by coordinating and scheduling equipment, safety and security needs
  • Setting-up, breaking-down, transporting, storing, maintaining and/or repairing relevant equipment including lifting of heavy equipment
  • Monitoring event operations, general facility/grounds activities and assuring clean-up
  • Instructing and/or leading recreation programs and activities as assigned
  • Leading warehouse support by receiving, storing, inventorying and distribution of supplies and ensuring warehouse is accessible during set hours and communicating closures
  • Assist with department’s fleet through tracking and meeting maintenance requirements
  • Driving County vehicles including vans and box trucks loaded with equipment and supplies (often responsible for loading and unloading)
  • Supporting Communications and Public Outreach ordering and inventory of promotional items to be utilized at Department events
  • Knowledge of county policies, rules, regulations, procedures and county, state, and federal laws

Benefits

  • The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $64,104 - $77,504, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
