About The Position

This position oversees special events for the Parks and Recreation Department. Responsibilities include event development, implementation, marketing, sponsorship solicitation, interpretation and enforcement of rules and regulations, and evaluation. Recruit, select, train, assign, motivate, supervise, and evaluate designated employees, monitor contractors and vendors. Fiscal accountability is required with the Department's budget preparation and implementation including forecasting funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies. Submit participation and financial reports as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation, Business, or related field or Five (5) years of related progressively responsible supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and main server applications.
  • Proficient in department registration/reservation software; or within one month of hire
  • Proficient in City software applications; or within one month of hire.
  • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification, or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire date.
  • Able to use an AED within three months of hire.
  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License; clean driving record.
  • Must comply with City of Conroe direct deposit payroll policy.
  • Proven knowledge and abilities are required in a wide variety of recreation events and programs.
  • Experience is required in all aspects of recruiting, hiring, training, assigning, supervising, and evaluating event support staff and contracted event vendors.
  • Ability to improve existing events; organize new events through the stages of planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating; budget preparation and execution; program marketing; and collaborations with other organizations.
  • Ability to interact directly with the public utilizing excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment.
  • A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required.
  • Safety-sensitive positions remain subject to random drug and alcohol testing after hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Parks and Recreation experience preferred, two years in a supervisory role.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
