About The Position

The City of Golden is seeking a Recreation Coordinator - Athletics. This role involves coordinating and supervising youth and adult programs, leagues, rentals, tournaments, special events, classes, and clinics within the athletics division. The position is responsible for all aspects of program service delivery, including creation, planning, implementation, evaluation, and assessment. This requires staff coordination and supervision, facility oversight, support for budget management, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all participants and guests. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1 year of athletic programming experience required
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certified or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks proficiently.
  • Ability to operate a small truck, tractor, utility vehicle, and a variety of tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree with studies in Parks and Recreation, Administration, Physical Education, or related field preferred
  • 3 years’ experience preferred
  • Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) through the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) preferred
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, develops, organizes, promotes, implements, and evaluates athletic programs, services, and resources.
  • Directly manages the rental and permitting processes for all city athletic facilities, fields, courts, and amenities.
  • Responsible for direct oversight of assigned athletic facilities including staffing, scheduling, service delivery, rental administration, financial accounting, asset management, and facility safety.
  • Supports the supervisor in budget development and implements specific budget line items.
  • Purchases equipment, uniforms, awards, and other miscellaneous materials.
  • Supports supervisor in coordinating with other department workgroups and city departments, external agencies, schools, and community partners.
  • Attends regular league meetings and may attend industry-specific meetings.
  • Supports the implementation of contracted services and programs.
  • Conducts safety inspections as necessary to maintain a safe environment for program participants.
  • Promotes a safe environment for staff and patrons.
  • Enforces all department policies, rules, and regulations while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Addresses and reports problems, concerns, or emergencies.
  • Prepares and coordinates marketing and promotional materials.
  • Assists the supervisor with data collection and analysis.
  • May support aspects of athletic turf and facility maintenance as assigned.
  • Directly supervises seasonal and part-time staff assigned to athletic programs.
  • Assigns the work of volunteers and contracted officials.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
