About The Position

This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Parks & Recreation Director. The position plans, organizes, schedules, directs, coordinates, and evaluates assigned portions of the County's recreation program. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision within a broad framework of policies and procedures. Position directs, coordinates, supervises, and formally evaluates the work of others. This job class is typically responsible for several recreational program areas and functions at a full supervisory, exempt level of classification.

Requirements

  • Philosophy, principles, and techniques of comprehensive public recreation programs.
  • Recreational needs of the local community.
  • Playground safety, sports safety, and first aid methods.
  • Principles and techniques of supervision including staffing, employee development, and planning and organizing work.
  • Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers' License.
  • Ability to complete position related training and certification for facility operation, program management and/or program operation; such as Aquatic Facility Operator, Certified Pool Operator, Youth Sports Administration, Water Safety Instructor certification and/or Lifeguard certification within one year within date of hire, or as available.
  • Ability to lead and demonstrate various recreation related skills in associated settings.
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Must be able to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the County and work off-hour shifts or events as required, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions.
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.
  • Work involves walking, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Work may periodically require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree and advanced educational study in public recreation or a closely related field and two years of increasingly responsible experience in recreational program planning and development.
  • Two years of supervisory level experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, schedules, coordinates, directs, and evaluates assigned recreation and leisure services/programs to include special events, competitive youth and adult athletics, all aquatics activities, and special interest classes.
  • Assists with recruiting, hiring, assigning, and evaluating the work of staff assigned to different programs.
  • Prepares publicity brochures and announcements for various programs and events.
  • Assesses community recreation needs and develops programs to meet those needs.
  • Prepares budget estimates and controls expenditures for a variety of programs and line items.
  • Prepares reports summarizing program activities and effectiveness.
  • Meets with community groups and representatives of other agencies to discuss recreational needs and program development.
  • Acts on citizen input and complaints regarding recreational programs.
  • Coordinates registration for program activities.
  • Provides direct leadership and supervision for recreational programs.
  • Coordinates scheduling and use of the County's facilities.
  • All Aquatic related programs and facility operations.
  • All Departmental Youth Sports programs and facility coordination.
  • All Departmental Adult Sports programs and facility coordination.
  • Coordination with and support to all Youth Sports Organizations using County facilities.
  • May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties.
