About The Position

Serves as support to the Parks and Recreation Department in various roles under The REC, Active Adults, Athletics, Athletic Maintenance, Aquatics, Community Events, Hospitality Services, Lake Parks, Outdoor Recreation classes/camps, Volunteer Services, Reservations, and/or Therapeutic Recreation. This role involves assisting with daily operations of facilities and programs, customer service, general maintenance, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Depending on the assignment, duties can range from operating facilities and assisting with registrations to preparing athletic fields, composing social media content, leading summer camps, managing reservations, or transporting participants in therapeutic programs.

Requirements

  • Ability to use a calculator and do basic math functions.
  • Proficient in operating computers such as desktops, iPads, smart phones.
  • Ability to perform cash handling duties and demonstrate an understanding of proper cash handling procedures.
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills and be able to deal effectively with the public.
  • Ability to lead and/or work with staff, volunteers, youth, vendors, and customers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have physical ability to work outdoors, lift up to 40 pounds, load, move, and set up various equipment needed for the camp, event, or class.
  • High school diploma or GED and 18 years of age or 2 years of full-time equivalent experience as a RCA I required.
  • Must have physical ability to accomplish job tasks and work outdoors as required.
  • Must possess or obtain upon hire CPR certification.
  • Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to work various times and be available nights, weekends and some holidays.
  • Must be comfortable driving large vehicles (when assigned to Active Adults).
  • May be required to have some knowledge of general sport rules (basketball, softball, volleyball, football) (when assigned to Athletics).
  • Must be able to operate a scoreboard (when assigned to Athletics).
  • Must have physical ability to accomplish job tasks and manipulate tools, maintenance equipment, and driving UTVs (when assigned to Athletic Maintenance).
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors in extreme temperatures as required (when assigned to Athletic Maintenance).
  • Must be available to work various times, including evenings, weekends and some holidays, as well as split shifts when necessary (when assigned to Athletic Maintenance).
  • Must be adept using Microsoft Office Suite and willing to learn new software programs (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers certification with three months of hire (when assigned to Hospitality).
  • Must have general knowledge of concession and food preparation (when assigned to Hospitality).
  • Must be able to operate a cash register (when assigned to Hospitality).
  • Must have 3-6 months of experience working with children (when assigned to Indoor Summer Camp Counselor).
  • Applicant selected must be actively pursuing a Bachelors or Masters Degree. Applicant must furnish current transcript with application (when assigned to Seasonal Internship).
  • Must be comfortable working in Windows based computer system and will be required to demonstrate efficient computer processing skills within six weeks of hire (when assigned to The REC).
  • Must be comfortable working in Windows based computer system (when assigned to Therapeutic Recreation).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) preferred (when assigned to Therapeutic Recreation).

Responsibilities

  • Attends to the daily operation of facilities and programs including opening and closing duties and directing RCA I's when necessary; assists with various recreation programs, hospitality/concessions, leagues and community events.
  • Assists with program registrations, including periods of intensive computer processing with custom registration system.
  • Assists with program and event set up, tear down and implementation, including working both inside and outside in various locations and conditions.
  • Provides excellent customer service by responding to customers’ questions and needs in a timely manner.
  • Performs and oversees the general maintenance and housekeeping duties in Parks and Recreation Department facilities and/or Grapevine/Colleyville Independent School District facilities.
  • Ensures the safety of all spectators and participants in programs and facilities; ensures that safety protocols are being adhered to.
  • Completes various reports and submits them to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
  • Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, volunteers, customers, vendors and others in the course of daily work.
  • Uses City vehicle to transport members of the REC (when assigned to Active Adults).
  • Reports accidents as instructed, per City policy (when assigned to Active Adults).
  • Runs various errands and complete tasks with minimal supervision for the department (when assigned to Active Adults).
  • Assists with athletic field preparation for games and tournaments with limited supervision. Includes raking, chalking and placement of bases (when assigned to Athletic Maintenance).
  • Performs moderate field repairs and learns basic irrigation functions (when assigned to Athletic Maintenance).
  • Keeps athletics facilities and grounds free of trash and litter (when assigned to Athletic Maintenance).
  • Composes content for social media and webpages (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Assists with volunteer program and event set up, tear down and implementation including working both inside and outside in various locations and conditions for both the Parks and Recreation Department and Keep Grapevine Beautiful (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Attends to various daily operational and facility needs for Community Events and The Vine Arts and Events Center (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Runs various errands and completes tasks with minimal supervision (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Provides excellent customer service by responding to volunteer and patron questions and needs in a timely manner (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Assists with creating and planning for Keep Grapevine Beautiful events and educational classes. Assists in the development and creation of themes, decorations, and activities for Community Events (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Works with a variety of programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and Canva to maintain database for tracking and scheduling volunteers and promoting volunteer opportunities (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Assists in the programming, implementation and promotion of Community Events and various classes for The Vine Arts and Events Center (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Plans marketing strategies for community events and various classes (when assigned to Community Events).
  • Responsible for the daily operations of The REC’s summer camp which will include coordinating and implementing recreational activities for youth ages 7-12 years along with a monthly field trip (when assigned to Indoor Summer Camp Counselor).
  • Directs and assists all RCA I Camp Counselors (when assigned to Indoor Summer Camp Counselor).
  • Provides customer service at the front desk of The REC and/or attends to the daily operations of the facility, program registrations, assist members, and monitor the facility as needed (when assigned to Indoor Summer Camp Counselor).
  • Responsible for preparing snacks and administering first aid (when assigned to Indoor Summer Camp Counselor).
  • Prepares the room/facility for the reservation/party prior to the event, cleans the room/facility at the end of reservation/party and prepares it for the next rental (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Greets and welcomes reservation holders and their guests (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Escorts the renter to the proper room/location (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Organizes and facilitates games and/or activities as applicable for a party (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Works at off-site venues without supervision (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Helps to create and ensure a safe program environment which may include program set-up and clean-up and general cleaning of spills, bodily fluids, etc. as the program dictates and/or notify facility staff (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Acts as a representative of the Parks and Recreation Department, upholds and exemplifies department policies and guidelines in all aspects of job performance and in relationships with children, families and district employees as outlined in the department employee handbook (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Communicates all pertinent rental information (incidents or injuries, needs, or concerns) to immediate supervisor or department program administrator (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Facilitates conflict resolution and solves problems independently (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Attends and participates in department-provided training, in-services and training (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Works evenings and weekends (when assigned to Reservations).
  • Drives City vehicle to transport participants in therapeutic programs (when assigned to Therapeutic Recreation).
  • Assists in the programming, implementation and promotion of Club-All-Access therapeutic program (when assigned to Therapeutic Recreation).
  • Assists in working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) (when assigned to Therapeutic Recreation).
  • Works with a variety of programs including Microsoft Word and Excel (when assigned to Therapeutic Recreation).
