About The Position

Perform a variety of attending duties at an amusement or recreation facility. May schedule use of recreation facilities, maintain and provide equipment to participants of sporting events or recreational pursuits, or operate amusement rides and machinery. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recreation Manager. This position performs responsible work in the operation of the City's pools, Skeet and Trap Range, lakefront operations and miniature train. Tasks include ensuring the safety of patrons; enforcing rules and regulations; maintaining cleanliness of facilities; collecting fees; preparing revenue reports; maintaining records as required; answering phones; assisting patrons; educating the public regarding proper use and safety measures; performing routine inspections for hazards and/or damages; and operating machinery (miniature train; skeet and trap machines). Other tasks as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Work experience in customer service and money handling
  • Knowledge of boating/fishing
  • Ability to obtain Wildlife Services Shotgun Safety Certificate
  • Ability to become First Aid/CPR/AED certified within first 6 months
  • Ability to be trained in accordance with North Carolina Department of Labor Specifications to perform job task
  • Ability to understand and follow written departmental policies and procedures
  • Through knowledge of the practices, methods, and policies used in operating amusement rides, skeet and trap fields, boating, fishing and lakefront operations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, participants, interested groups, and the general public
  • Ability to prepare and maintain financial reports, collect money, operate cash register and credit card machine
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independent
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility in emphasized.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Kneeling: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal spoken word levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.
  • Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform one or more of the following: preparing and analyzing data and figures; accounting; computer terminal; using measurement devices.
  • Must possess a valid appropriate driver's license with acceptable driving history.
  • Drug screening and criminal background checks required.
