Recreation Aide
About The Position
This is a seasonal position under the supervision of the Recreation Maintenance Supervisor. Ice Park Maintenance staff are responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the Holland Ice Park facility. Duties include maintaining safe, high-quality ice conditions; operating ice resurfacing and maintenance equipment; cleaning public areas; assisting with facility setup and teardown; and supporting public skating and program operations. The position requires working one of the listed shifts: Friday evening, Saturday evening, or Sunday. The posting gives differing evening hours in the Description and Supplemental Information sections.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to operate light machinery and perform manual labor in cold environments.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork skills.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical work in winter conditions.
- Must be able to work one of the listed shifts: Friday evening, Saturday evening, or Sunday.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in facility or equipment maintenance is preferred.
- Knowledge of ice rink operations is helpful but not required; training is provided.
Responsibilities
- Maintain ice quality through resurfacing, edging, and other ice maintenance tasks as needed.
- Operate and maintain ice resurfacing machines, snow blowers, and related equipment.
- Clean and restock restrooms, locker rooms, and other public spaces on a regular schedule.
- Maintain the building interior and exterior, including pavilion areas and the skate rental space.
- Monitor ice conditions and facility use, report hazards, and enforce policies to help ensure public safety.
- Provide customer service to patrons and program participants.
- Assist with skate sharpening, skate rentals, and minor equipment repairs as needed.
- Complete opening and closing duties, secure the facility, and perform end-of-day reports.
- Assist Parks & Recreation staff with special events and community programming at the Ice Park.
- Assist with facility setup and teardown.
