About The Position

This role involves the skilled placement and shaping of reinforcing steel bars (rebar) in concrete structures. The Journey Rebar Ironworker will be responsible for reading blueprints, preparing and installing rebar according to specifications, and ensuring the structural integrity of the reinforced concrete. This position requires a strong understanding of construction materials, safe tool operation, and the ability to work at heights and in various environmental conditions.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, including elevations and bundle tags.
  • Knowledge of the weights of different bar sizes per foot and bar diameters.
  • Ability to cut bars to required lengths using a hacksaw, band saw, or acetylene torch.
  • Ability to bend steel rods with hickey bars or a rod-bending machine.
  • Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain with or without tools and building materials.
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders and work above ground as necessary.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving safe dexterous use of hand tools.
  • Ability to safely operate power tools and equipment.
  • Ability to climb rebar cages and walls and work at height while hanging from rebar structures.
  • Adherence to all safety procedures.
  • 48 months of industrial construction experience.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand blueprints, including elevations and bundle tags.
  • Aid in rigging operations, including connections and disconnections.
  • Select, measure, cut, bend, and shape reinforcing bars to specifications.
  • Place rebar in forms, spacing and fastening them together with wire and pliers.
  • Position and secure steel bars in concrete forms.
  • Reinforce concrete with wire mesh as needed.
  • Ensure all reinforcing material is in its proper position to receive intended structural load.
  • Load, transport, unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation.
  • Clean and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Restock supplies and materials as necessary.
  • Safely traverse uneven terrain with or without tools and building materials.
  • Climb vertical ladders and work above ground as necessary.
  • Perform tasks involving safe and dexterous use of hand tools.
  • Safely operate power tools and equipment.
  • Climb rebar cages and walls and work at height while hanging from rebar structures.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures.
