About The Position

This role is for a Rebar Ironworker General Foreman. The position involves ensuring safe work practices, interpreting blueprints, managing work scope and priorities, instructing journeymen, coordinating with other crafts, and maintaining quality of work. The General Foreman is responsible for administering and enforcing work and safety rules, providing guidance to foremen, developing action plans for problem resolution, and participating in work preplanning.

Requirements

  • Typically has 8 years of industrial construction experience.
  • Typically has 4 years in supervisory roles.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safe work observations with a focus on changing employee behavior to achieve the Bechtel Zero Accident objective.
  • Provide employee feedback and/or consequences for safe/unsafe behavior.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, understand job specifications, and implement Bechtel job procedures and work rules.
  • Understand the work scope and integrate project priorities.
  • Instruct journeymen in specific craft tasks, including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Be knowledgeable of other craft disciplines to effect work coordination between crafts.
  • Know, administer, and enforce work and safety rules in a fair and consistent manner for the crafts under your direction.
  • Provide timely and concise guidance to foremen to preclude crew work stoppage.
  • Provide precise directions to foremen and ensure foremen are effectively supervising work crews.
  • Understand work priorities and schedules and assign work plans.
  • Identify problems and develop action plans to resolve them with minimal work disruption.
  • Initiate coordination with other disciplines to prevent scheduling conflicts.
  • Be responsible for the quality of work performed by the crafts under your supervision.
  • Ensure accurate reports are submitted regarding time sheets, backcharges, quantity, and work status.
  • Ensure foremen and crews understand assignments and directions prior to commencement of work.
  • Participate in the free exchange of ideas between yourself and others.
  • Administer praise and discipline consistently and fairly and initiate corrective action when required.
  • Conduct work preplanning by providing meaningful input at weekly scheduling meetings.
  • Monitor work progress and report impending schedule problems to supervision.
