Rebar Ironworker Helper
About The Position
This role involves assisting Ironworkers in various construction tasks, primarily focused on the preparation, placement, and securing of reinforcing steel bars (rebar) in concrete structures. The helper will be responsible for measuring, cutting, bending, and shaping rebar according to specifications, as well as fastening it in place within concrete forms. The position requires the ability to work safely at heights, traverse uneven terrain, and operate hand and power tools. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment and adhering to all safety procedures are critical aspects of this role.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 months industrial construction experience.
- Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain with/without tools and building materials.
- Ability to climb vertical ladders and work above ground as necessary.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks involving safe, dexterous use of hand tools.
- Ability to safely operate power tools and equipment.
- Ability to climb rebar cages and walls and work at heights.
- Adherence to all safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Communicates with Ironworkers and others to perform job tasks.
- Selects rods, measures, cuts to length, bends, and shapes reinforcing bar to exacting specifications.
- Places rods in forms, spacing and fastening them together, using wire and pliers.
- Positions and secures steel bars in concrete forms and reinforces concrete.
- Cuts bars to required lengths, using a hacksaw, band saws, or acetylene torch.
- Bends steel rods with hickey bars or a rod-bending machine.
- May reinforce concrete with wire mesh.
- Ensures that all reinforcing material is in its proper position so that it receives its intended structural load.
- Loads, transports, unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during installation.
- Cleans and performs minor maintenance activities on tools and equipment.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Safely traverses uneven terrain with/without tools and building materials.
- Climbs vertical ladders and works above ground as necessary.
