Journeyman Ironworker shall have the knowledge and expertise to ensure that all craft are trained to follow all project policies and procedures. This role involves setting up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members, with an understanding that on most projects the crane and rigging department sets the cranes for steel erection. The use of tag lines will be required on all members that are hoisted. The position requires knowledge of how members are fastened and the ability to understand the principal fundamentals of installing steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device. The Journeyman Ironworker will install members into final position, using turnbuckles, sleaver bars, porta powers, and hand tools. They will align holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by using drift pins, bull pins, spud wrenches and sleaver bars. Verification of vertical and horizontal alignment of members using Bazooka bobs, lasers, and levels is also a key responsibility. The role requires knowledge and ability to bolt members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place. The ability and knowledge to modify steel members to make alterations, using oxyacetylene welding equipment or grinders with metal cutting discs is necessary. Adequate knowledge of proper procedures associated with loading, transporting, or unloading materials, tools, equipment, and supplies is required. The Journeyman Ironworker will assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and structural members during installation and perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
