About The Position

This position performs supervisory and administrative work in assisting with the daily operations of the Real Property Appraisal Unit of the Beaufort County Tax Assessor’s Office. Provides leadership and technical guidance to staff, answers questions, and has public contact that could include controversial and appealable decisions. Reports to the Assistant Tax Assessor. Provides supervision of workflow and activities for the property appraisal unit, including Property Use Valuation work. Supervises staff, works with Senior Staff on employee evaluations, interviews for Real Property positions, makes recommendations on hiring, firing and disciplinary action of Real Property personnel. Recommends and implements operating practices of significant importance. Appraises real property, including rural vacant land, commercial, industrial, waterfront, and tax-exempt properties for tax purposes. Responsible for the review of building permits by the Real Property staff. Makes field visits to collect data for appraisals. Will be required to help with any revaluation work done inside of the county. Meets with taxpayers as needed and will assist the Assessor at local and state level property appeals. This position is not funded until August 1st, 2026.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a 4-year college or university with specialized courses in real estate, construction, finance or appraisal.
  • Two years of appraisal, or related, experience is required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain Real Property Appraiser Certification within 2 years of hiring.
  • Applicant must provide complete work history, documentation of all certifications, places and dates of employment and hours worked.
