About The Position

Reading Corps is hiring Reading Tutors to support students at Brown Deer Elementary School during the 2026–27 school year. Tutors receive training and ongoing coaching to deliver proven reading activities. On each school day, tutors work with pairs of students for 20-minute reading-practice sessions, following a schedule until all assigned students have been served. Tutors encourage students as they build reading skills and confidence.

The position runs from August 2026 through June 2027. Full-time positions are 35 hours per week, with fewer hours during weeks that include holidays or school release days; part-time positions of 25 hours per week are also available. Hours are during the daytime and correspond with school start and end times. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with no weekends and time off on holidays and school release days. Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a stipend paycheck every two weeks. Stipend amounts and education awards are described on the organization’s careers page.

Requirements

• Be dependable and have a history of good attendance.
• Be able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback.
• Have basic computer skills, such as using email and navigating online.
• Be fluent in spoken, written, and read English.
• Be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent by the start of service.
• Be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
• Successfully complete a background check.

Responsibilities

• Be a caring adult focused on helping children thrive.
• Lead tutoring sessions and follow a schedule so students receive support.
• Track student progress and meet regularly with the school's on-site coach.
• Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores in data software.
• Participate in coaching and training to support personal growth.
