About The Position

Huntington Learning Center of Yorktown is seeking a part-time Reading Tutor for its Skill-based Program. The tutor will work with students in Kindergarten through 8th grade to strengthen reading comprehension, writing, and foundational math skills. Instruction is provided one-on-one or in small groups of up to four students, following Huntington’s established curriculum and individualized student plans. The role includes building positive relationships and helping students gain confidence in their academic skills. Lesson planning and homework grading are not required.

This is a year-round position, not seasonal, with a minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 hours per week. Center hours during the school year are Monday–Thursday, 2:00–8:30 PM; Friday, 2:00–8:00 PM; and Saturday–Sunday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. Compensation is $17–$20 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Requirements

• A four-year degree is required.
• A positive attitude, patience, and enthusiasm for helping students learn.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working with children or students, such as tutoring, teaching, coaching, mentoring, or youth programs, is strongly preferred but not required.
