RAN Wireless NOC Engineer

AST SpaceMobile•Lanham, MD

About The Position

AST SpaceMobile is building SpaceMobile, a space-based cellular broadband network intended to provide 4G/5G connectivity to standard smartphones around the world. The RAN Wireless NOC Engineer monitors, triages, and helps maintain satellite connectivity across signaling, routing, SIM provisioning, OSS integrations, and core-network interactions. The role responds to alarms, validates routing behavior, diagnoses signaling and gateway/core issues, and coordinates with partner NOCs to sustain high availability for commercial and beta-grade connectivity. It contributes to 24/7 operational continuity and rapid incident response by diagnosing faults, validating service paths, and minimizing customer-impacting disruptions. The engineer works in a shift-based NOC environment and supports operational readiness for new services, partner integrations, and routing changes. The position produces monitoring logs, incident tickets, routing and signaling analyses, handover summaries, partner-coordination records, RCA inputs, operational documentation, and service-quality reporting. Duties and scope may change according to business demands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in NOC operations, telecom monitoring, satellite operations, or core-network support.
  • Experience working with signaling flows, routing tables, authentication paths, or mobile-core elements.
  • Hands-on exposure to multi-vendor NOC operations, incident workflows, and partner escalations.
  • Strong understanding of signaling such as Diameter, SIP, and NAS, as well as routing fundamentals and core-network behavior.
  • Knowledge of telecom connectivity flows, including SIM activation, attach procedures, mobility, and authentication.
  • Experience analyzing logs, traces, routing tables, and event correlations across network elements.
  • Familiarity with OSS/NMS tools, alarms, KPIs, dashboards, and monitoring platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux, basic Python or Bash scripting, and troubleshooting tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to diagnose issues under time pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordination with internal teams and partner NOCs.
  • High attention to detail, with disciplined documentation and tracking.
  • Adaptability to shift-based schedules and fast-paced incident environments.
  • Team-oriented approach and strong ownership of incident resolution and service quality.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods and remain attentive during extended monitoring sessions and incident bridges.
  • Ability to work in a shift-based NOC environment, including nights or weekends based on rotation.

Nice To Haves

  • Networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, or JNCIS, or certifications in telecom operations.
  • Basic understanding of satellite network components, gateways, or hybrid RAN-core flows.
  • Familiarity with NOC and OSS/NMS tools such as Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, or SolarWinds.
  • Familiarity with logging tools such as Elastic, Splunk, or Kibana and packet-analysis tools such as Wireshark.
  • Familiarity with ticketing/ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, or Remedy.
  • Basic scripting and automation familiarity with Python or Bash.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, dashboards, and documentation tools.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for training, partner coordination, or operational readiness activities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor signaling pathways, routing behavior, SIM flows, OSS hooks, and cross-core interactions affecting satellite service.
  • Detect, acknowledge, and triage alarms from monitoring platforms, with rapid response and detailed logging.
  • Escalate anomalies according to severity, impact, and operational thresholds.
  • Validate routing tables, signaling transactions, and core-network behavior during faults or service degradation.
  • Diagnose connectivity issues across gateway, core, OSS, and cross-domain integrations.
  • Analyze events, correlate logs, and support root-cause investigations with engineering teams.
  • Act as the operational interface with partner NOCs for incident handling, alarm correlation, and workflow alignment.
  • Coordinate multi-party triage calls, share logs and findings, and track partner-linked issues through closure.
  • Maintain communication loops and follow defined escalation paths.
  • Ensure signaling and routing flows comply with requirements across commercial and beta-grade service classes.
  • Conduct periodic checks of SIM provisioning paths, authentication flows, and connectivity stability.
  • Validate OSS integration points, alarms, KPIs, and data hooks used for service-assurance visibility.
  • Contribute to playbooks, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and operational runbooks for core, gateway, and OSS interactions.
  • Support readiness for new services, partner integrations, and routing changes through pre-launch validation tests.
  • Provide feedback on monitoring thresholds, dashboards, and workflows to improve detection and response.
  • Maintain accurate logs, incident records, and ticket updates for internal and external teams.
  • Prepare shift-handover summaries, incident reports, and RCA inputs as needed.
  • Track recurring issues and propose remediation actions to service-assurance leadership.
  • Produce real-time monitoring logs, incident tickets, alarm responses, routing validation reports, signaling analysis outputs, triage documentation, partner-coordination records, recurring-issue reports, updated operational documentation, and service-quality dashboards and health summaries.
