About The Position
The Radiology Quality & Safety Manager provides system-level leadership for radiology and medical imaging quality management, patient safety, regulatory readiness, and accreditation compliance across UVA Community Health imaging services. The role designs, implements, and sustains standardized quality and safety programs across all imaging modalities and sites. The Manager oversees accreditation and regulatory activities, continuous readiness for internal and external reviews, performance measurement, risk mitigation, and corrective action planning. The role partners with radiology leadership, medical directors, physicists, and system quality teams to align imaging operations with organizational goals, regulatory standards, and best practices. As a key member of the radiology leadership team, the Manager supports strategic planning, performance improvement, and a culture of safety across the enterprise. The position reports to the Director of Radiology Services. Additional duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Radiologic Technology or Medical Imaging.
- At least 8 years of experience in radiology or imaging services.
- Previous experience supporting radiology quality and initiatives.
- ARRT, ARDMS, ARMRIT, or NMTCB certification.
- Expert knowledge of radiology accreditation and regulatory standards, including ACR, The Joint Commission, and MQSA.
- Strong understanding of imaging workflows, radiation safety principles, and quality performance measurement.
- Demonstrated ability to lead system-level quality and safety initiatives.
- Strong analytical, communication, and change management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment.

- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
Responsibilities
- Lead and standardize radiology quality management and patient safety programs across imaging modalities and locations.
- Develop, monitor, and report imaging quality metrics, dashboards, and performance indicators.
- Lead root cause analyses and risk assessments related to imaging safety and quality events.
- Support radiation safety and dose optimization initiatives with medical physicists and physician leadership.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, including ACR, Joint Commission, MQSA, and state and federal requirements.
- Lead preparation for surveys, audits, and site visits, maintaining continuous system-wide readiness.
- Oversee modality accreditation processes, documentation, and corrective actions.
- Interpret regulatory changes and translate requirements into operational practice.
- Develop and maintain standardized radiology policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Integrate lean and performance improvement methodologies into imaging operations.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiency, and risk reduction.
- Lead system-wide quality initiatives and ensure timely execution of improvement plans.
- Educate and guide imaging leaders and staff on quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Advise radiology leadership, medical staff, and system partners as a subject matter expert.
- Foster working relationships across radiology, nursing, medical staff, and quality teams.
- Participate in radiology strategic planning and goal development.
- Support departmental performance management, resource planning, and quality- and safety-related capital initiatives.
- Promote accountability, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care.
