About The Position

The Radiographer is responsible for producing radiographs to customer and PCC specifications for the evaluation of castings. This role involves accurately setting up castings for radiography, operating x-ray machines effectively, and ensuring all work meets production and quality standards. The position also requires adherence to safety protocols, particularly radiation safety practices, and may involve training and mentoring less experienced radiographers.

Requirements

Radiography skills as demonstrated by the competent performance of all duties OR an equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.
High school graduation or GED (necessary for NDT Certification).
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Ability to read, follow and interpret Technique Cards, Quality Control Manuals and other technical specifications.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
Radiography Level 1 Courses must be completed (radiation safety, digital method training, etc.).
Radiographer Level l Certification must be completed for all modalities (Film, CR, DDA).
Must re-certify - Level 1 every five years.

Responsibilities

Setup castings for radiography according to routing or requests and Technique Cards.
Review Technique Cards to determine setup requirements, including x-ray techniques, part positions, and Film/IP requirements.
Set up additional radiographs of defect areas not covered by Technique Cards.
Inspect and maintain Film/IP and cassettes, following proper handling techniques.
Set up castings on x-ray machine tables, including fixturing, placement of Film/IP’s, DICOM tag identification, and penetrameters.
Determine the priority of radiographs to be taken.
Develop best practice setup requirements for newly developed techniques.
Visually inspect castings for dirt, penetrant, grinding debris, etc.
Operate x-ray machine control panels and equipment to take multiple views of castings.
Adjust radiographic variables such as tube height, voltage, and exposure times within customer specifications.
Monitor, maintain, and generate exposures for System Qualifications on X-ray equipment.
Conduct multiple radiographic examinations concurrently and operate all machines.
Remove Film/IP from castings for image processing, maintaining proper handling techniques.
Check samples of radiographs for artifacts, clarity, coverage, pixel value, and sensitivity after image processing.
Make necessary changes to radiographic variables within customer and PCC specifications and record any changes.
Reshoot exposures when needed.
Be available for audits by internal and external auditing groups (PCC NDTE, NADCAP, ISO 9000, etc.).
Train, mentor, and assist less skilled Radiographers with setup and operational techniques.
Complete logs and records, and record any modifications to Technique Card specifications.
Meet all production and quality standards.
Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
Safely operate all equipment and tools.
Identify and report safety problems.
Perform other tasks as directed and other x-ray department personnel activities.
