About The Position

We are seeking a Radiation Control Technician to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico. The role involves providing radiological support at assigned Laboratory sites, conducting workplace surveillance, analyzing radiological data, and providing operational health physics support. Responsibilities include reviewing radiological work for proper controls and posting compliance, assisting and mentoring employees in on-the-job training related to radiation monitoring, contamination control, external exposure control, emergency response, radiation work permits, and facility design. The technician will also interface with emergency personnel or respond directly to radiation-related emergencies, work with health physicists to determine re-entry requirements, and direct other RCTs in monitoring and handling contaminated personnel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a United States (U.S.) citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Experience working in high-hazard radiological environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection regulations, including 10CFR835.

Responsibilities

  • Provides radiological support at assigned Laboratory sites.

  • Provides operational health physics support in assigned facility, function, or area.
  • Reviews radiological work for proper controls and posting compliance with Laboratory requirements.
  • Assists and mentors employees in on-the-job training related to: Radiation monitoring procedures, Contamination control, External exposure control, Emergency response, Radiation work permits, Facility design.
  • Interfaces with emergency personnel or responds directly to radiation-related emergencies.
  • Works with health physicists to determine re-entry requirements.
  • Directs other RCTs in monitoring and handling contaminated personnel.
