About The Position

We are seeking a Radiation Control Technician to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Responsibilities Provide radiological support in workplace surveillance, monitoring, and analysis/interpretation of radiological data. Deliver operational health physics support across assigned facilities, functions, or areas. Support and oversee high-hazard radiological work activities. Ensure compliance with radiation protection standards, procedures, and 10 CFR 835 requirements. Review radiological work plans to ensure proper controls, postings, and compliance with laboratory requirements. Implement radiation protection procedures across a wide range of activities. Interface with emergency personnel and respond to radiological or radioactive material incidents. Support re-entry planning and direct monitoring activities during contamination events. Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to junior technicians in radiation monitoring, contamination control, exposure control, emergency response, and radiation work permits. Collaborate with Health Physicists to ensure appropriate safety measures and controls. Assume field leadership responsibilities and direct other RCTs as needed. Work independently with minimal supervision; apply technical judgment to solve complex radiological challenges. Ensure work aligns with organizational objectives and established procedures.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience – High School Diploma and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Ability to meet requirements outlined in DOE Order 426.2 (Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities).
  • Strong understanding of radiological control principles, theories, and practices.
  • Experience supporting high-hazard radiological environments.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection regulations, including 10 CFR 835.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Capable of working independently with limited supervision.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and 24/7 coverage as needed.
  • Ability to work in outdoor and physically demanding environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Ability to use ladders and stairways.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to wear PPE, including respiratory protection.
  • Free from medical conditions that would prevent safe work in controlled radiological areas.
