About The Position

Under the direction of the Race Crew Supervisor / Races and Events Manager, the ‘Race Crew I’ will assist with the preparation and production of events at Winter Park Resort in alpine, freestyle skiing, freeride, snowboarding, and big mountain events. These events may include sanctioned international, national, divisional, collegiate, high school, marketing, employee, NASTAR, and club events. ‘Race Crew I’ members are expected to act in an official capacity at most events. This employee may be required satisfactorily complete the WPRA snowmobile licensing course and maintain a current snowmobile operator’s license (dependent upon their Supervisor). This is a job for a skilled to advanced skier, who enjoys working out on the hill and takes pride in being part of a team. The ‘Race Crew I’ will follow all Winter Park policies and procedures, all applicable laws (federal, state, and local), and all health and sanitation codes.

Requirements

  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and clean driving record – Will be required if approved to drive a snowmobile
  • Skis and comfortable ski boots are a must for long days on the hill
  • May operate snowmobiles, use drills, gate wrench, flex pole, fencing, shovels, rakes, timing equipment, stop watches, radios, computers, copy machines, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Install fencing and closures
  • Learn course setting skills (NASTAR)
  • Learn how set up and use various timing equipment
  • Assist with timing of events
  • Learn how to use communication equipment
  • Prepare start and finish areas for events/races
  • Help with the set-up of race communications
  • Responsible for the removal and storage of equipment
  • Maintain race equipment
  • Drive snow mobiles
  • Perform general course maintenance: slipping, shoveling, raking
  • Promote work area cleanliness
  • Set-up and operate timing equipment
  • Responsible for course preparation and setting skills (closures, starts, finish areas, ski racing protection)
  • Complete course dismantling after events/races
  • Help with the set-up race communications equipment (phones, headsets, and radios)
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on race equipment (phone lines, timing equipment, public address system, poles and banners)
  • May officiate in races (as required)
  • Administer race policy and procedures
  • May be required to assist with publishing and posting start orders, result sheets, and presenting awards to participants
  • Maintain a friendly, congenial, and helpful attitude while effectively dealing with guests and other employees
  • Report and/or correct unsafe conditions regarding equipment and area of work, or elsewhere on the area
  • Keep work area neat and orderly
  • Perform other duties as directed by Supervisors/Coordinators/Managers
