About The Position

The Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in supporting brewery operations by ensuring the effective function and integrity of the laboratory. This position is responsible for conducting phys-chemical analyses, coordinating sensory panel activities, and performing microbiological plating to support production at the NJ Brewery. In addition, the Laboratory Technician maintains overall laboratory organization, equipment, and standards, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely completion of daily testing. This role is essential to upholding product quality, operational excellence, and the overall performance of the site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ year’s applicable experience strongly preferred.
  • Laboratory and/or beverage manufacturing experience in food/carbonated beverage/alcohol.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Willing to work overtime, and occasional weekends/holidays.
  • Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices, including sample prep, handling and record keeping.
  • Demonstrate motivation and a good work ethic under minimal supervision.
  • Must work well independently.
  • Proficient with basic computer applications, including Excel, Microsoft Office, and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure continuous operation of lab testing equipment through daily validations, active process/data monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Management of laboratory inventory.
  • Set-up and participation in weekly sensory panels to confirm quality of finished base using Compusense software to record results.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment/instrumentation, not limited to Alcolyzer, DMA, pH meters, spectrophotometer, microscopes, etc.
  • Proficient with micro plating, aseptic sample collection, and colony identification procedures.
  • Skillful with following procedures on how to properly use and clean instrumentation.
  • Evaluate GFB quality and audit processes throughout production to ensure all specs are met and plant is operating within desired parameters.
  • Proficient in Good Lab Practices, keeping a clean and safe laboratory.
  • Learn and understand processes throughout the facility to better assist with troubleshooting, determining root cause.
  • Maintain laboratory operation, documentation, and compliance to site standards to support BRCGS 3rd party audits.
  • Participate in site Food Safety and Food Defense teams including internal audit support, investigations, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Lead by example and drive all Plant, Safety, and Quality policies and procedures within the Brewery, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as well as adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Effective escalation measures taken for safety, equipment and/or quality and food safety issues for immediate resolution.
  • Participate in the Safety Programs to ensure safe operations for yourself and peers.
