Quality Specialist, Advanced Problem Solving

ZF GroupFarmington Hills, MI

About The Position

The Quality Specialist, Advanced Problem Solving, leads critical product performance investigations by managing PPAC/SIMAC escalations and addressing issues with potential safety or regulatory impact. The role drives data driven problem solving using 8D, Six Sigma, and RedX while reducing variation, improving capability, and eliminating waste across processes. Through close collaboration with Engineering, Operations, and Quality teams, the specialist coordinates containment, recovery, and permanent corrective actions supported by statistical analysis and effective process controls. They also execute continuous improvement projects, train teams in structured methodologies, and ensure lasting solutions that enhance product reliability and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Strong skills of Six Sigma tools (DMAIC, MSA, SPC, Capability, DoE), Shainin RedX, and various statistical problem solving techniques
  • Strong understanding of product safety, functional safety, regulatory compliance, and industry standards.
  • Analytical mindset with advanced statistical reasoning and data driven decision making.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (Minitab/JMP/Excel)
  • Effective communicator with strong facilitation, coaching, and cross functional leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict, build consensus, and drive alignment across functions.
  • Ability to structure complex problems, run experiments, verify cause and effect, and sustain improvements.
  • Knowledge of Lean principles (VSM, 5S, Kaizen, SMED) and quality systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949 if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Managing critical product performance concerns through established governance processes (PPAC/SIMAC) and oversee resolution of issues with potential safety, regulatory, or legal impact.
  • Leading structured problem solving projects using methodologies such as 8D, Six Sigma (DMAIC), and Shainin RedX, ensuring adherence to formal PPAC/SIMAC processes and protecting confidentiality.
  • Driving variation reduction and process capability improvement by identifying root causes of defects, eliminating waste, and conducting statistical analyses using tools like Minitab/JMP.
  • Supporting Measurement System Analysis (MSA), implementing effective process controls (SPC, control plans, reaction plans), and collaborating with Operations and Engineering to execute corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinating cross functional containment, recovery, and permanent corrective actions while facilitating root cause investigations between Engineering, Quality, and Operations.
  • Executing end to end continuous improvement projects with measurable impact on quality, cost, and delivery, ensuring sustainability through documentation, training, and governance.
  • Training and coaching teams in Six Sigma, RedX, and structured problem solving methodologies while supporting leadership in prioritizing CI projects aligned with business objectives.
  • Monitoring, validating, and optimizing systemic improvements—enhancing detection measures, workflow efficiency, product reliability, and overall performance.
