Quality Manager

Balanced Body Inc•Sacramento, CA
•$120,000 - $150,000•Onsite

About The Position

Balanced Body is hiring a Quality Manager to own quality across the full manufacturing flow, from suppliers through customer delivery. This newly consolidated, hands-on player-coach role brings incoming inspection, in-process quality, and supplier quality under one leader. The manager will build a disciplined, criteria-driven quality system and represent the customer's expectations inside the factory, emphasizing whether products are worthy of customer ownership rather than merely conforming to drawings. The role includes direct work on the production floor, inspecting parts, authoring standards, and working with suppliers at their facilities. The Quality Manager will own customer-facing quality issues, acceptance criteria, the QT9 quality management system, supplier quality processes, team coaching, and quality planning for product launches, new manufacturing sources, and a facility move. Quality is the exclusive focus of the role; EHS and Supply Chain are separate functions with which the manager will partner.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of progressive quality experience in discrete manufacturing.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading a team.
  • Hands-on, current quality experience rather than leadership exclusively through managers.
  • Hands-on ownership of a QMS such as QT9 or an equivalent system, including CAPA, NCP, MRB, and audit management.
  • Supplier quality experience with FAI, PPAP or equivalent, supplier audits, and corrective-action follow-through.
  • Experience working with small or informal suppliers as well as suppliers with established quality systems.
  • Direct customer-facing experience handling complaint resolution, 8D reporting, and account commitments.
  • Ability to write acceptance criteria for a high-mix, craftsmanship-driven environment.
  • Comfort building metrics and dashboards in Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with premium consumer, fitness, or furniture products.
  • ASQ certification such as CQM/OE or CQE.
  • Experience qualifying international manufacturing sources.
  • Lean or Theory of Constraints background.
  • New product introduction experience.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.
  • Power BI experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own customer-facing quality issues, including complaints, field failures, and warranty claims; prepare 8D reports, drive corrective actions, and feed field data back to the factory.
  • Write acceptance criteria for every part family and chair the Material Review Board.
  • Manage QT9 as an active quality management system, including the CAPA pipeline, non-conforming product trends, and audit readiness.
  • Build and maintain leadership-facing quality dashboards covering cost of poor quality, first-pass yield, and rework by supplier.
  • Establish an end-to-end supplier quality process, from supplier quality agreements through first article inspection and incoming inspection.
  • Develop structured improvement programs for high-impact suppliers and work directly with suppliers, including small local shops, to build their quality processes and controls.
  • Lead a weekly quality and supply cadence with Supply Chain.
  • Coach and set standards for inspectors, technicians, and supplier quality engineers.
  • Develop quality plans for new product launches, including the Luna Reformer.
  • Qualify new manufacturing sources, including international operations.
  • Ensure a zero-gap quality transition during the upcoming facility move.
  • Perform hands-on inspection, standards development, and supplier-floor work, particularly during the first year.

Benefits

  • Medical and dental coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Employer-paid life and long-term disability insurance.
