About The Position

This role involves inspecting light-tight enclosures to ensure radiation containment to Class 1 levels, verifying the functionality of safety interlocks, shutters, barriers, and warning systems. The inspector will also check administrative controls such as signage, restricted access, written procedures, and personnel training. Additionally, the role requires confirming the availability and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), particularly laser protective eyewear. The inspector will maintain inspection records and corrective action reports, and has the authority to halt laser operations if unsafe conditions are identified. This position acts as a compliance link between operators, management, and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

• Laser Safety Officer; a formally designated inspector under ANSI Z136.1 standards
• Technical or scientific background (physics, optics, engineering, or occupational safety).
• Formal training in laser safety principles, hazard evaluation, and control measures.
• Completion of ANSI Z136.1 laser safety training.
• Familiarity with OSHA requirements and institutional policies.
• Documented competency in evaluating Class 4 laser hazards.
